About The Real Stages of Grief - A Journey Through Loss by D.G. Kaye
Debby and I have been writing buddies for over fifteen years, and much love and support flow back and forth across ‘Our Pond’. Debby’s books are warm, witty, and full of wisdom. We can all find ourselves within their pages. Debby is also a wonderful support for her fellow writers and a living example of ‘a rising tide that lifts all ships’. She is my friend, our UB (Unicorn Buddy) and Tim and I hold her in our hearts. 🦄🩷
Debby is a warm and insightful nonfiction/memoir writer, writing from her life experiences. All her books are relatable, and her latest release, ‘About The Real Stages of Grief - A Journey Through Loss’ is about the devastating loss of her beloved husband and the grief she walks with every day.
About the book, from Debby’s perspective:
The truth about grief: it has filled countless pages in clinical studies and personal stories, but no words can prepare us for its reality. When I lost my beloved husband, I searched for solace in grief groups and forums, longing to make sense of my experience. There I discovered something rarely spoken aloud—that many of us carry the same hidden aches and side effects of loss, the ones that seldom find their way into books.
Love does not die, and so grief never truly leaves us. It lingers, reshaping itself, teaching us to live with its many faces. This book is the story of my own passage through loss—an endurance of sorrow, and a testament to the strength of those left behind.
Grief is a heart-wrenching journey each of us will one day face. I write not only for those who are grieving, but also for the ones who walk beside them—for the friends, family, and witnesses to heartbreak—so they might understand, even a little, what it means to live with loss.
My five star review:
D.G. Kaye manages to convey much as she eloquently shares her total heartbreak and grief over the passing of her beloved husband. Kaye is an articulate writer who shares with such warmth and empathy that many will be touched by her experience. Grief is a thorny subject, and Kaye gracefully walks a line where many will feel seen and heard through her words. Kaye could have gone down the rabbit hole on how the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic yanked the medical support away from her husband when they needed it most, yet she holds back. It may be a book topic for another day. In ‘About The Real Stages of Grief - A Journey Through Loss’, Kaye takes us through devastating loss and grief in a meaningful and helpful way. Comprehensively describing feelings like guilt, how grief cannot be measured, triggers, carrying the heavy load and dealing with other people’s reactions and choices. Whether you have experienced a loss and grief that rips life from under you, or you are trying to support and flow love to someone who is travelling this road, you will find empathy, understanding, support and love through Kaye’s heartfelt writing and shared experiences. I found myself nodding and agreeing as I read Kaye’s story, whilst pausing to grab my tissues.
Kaye has written a beautiful book that will be helpful to many, and her words will stay with me. It is a loving tribute to her beloved husband. ❤️
