Where would we be without laughter?
Even when arranging a funeral, sometimes laughter bubbles up. I sat with a family as we tried to remember the name of a song for their Mum. We knew it was Dean Martin and it would be a lovely tune to leave the chapel to, but our minds were blank. In unison we all chorused,
‘Not the drinking one!’
At another gathering this week, we were all relaxed around the kitchen table as the memories flowed. A tale involving two elderly ladies, a wheelchair and light-fingered pilfering was shared. Silence descended until I said,
‘Probably best not to include that one!’
Tim has a gift for drawing and his creativity is witty. It was his birthday recently, and he added a little drawing to his thank you cards. To my Mum who bought him a fleece, he drew a big fleece, with stick feet at the bottom, arms stretching out like a scarecrow and a bubble from the top saying,
‘It fits.’
For our wonderful friends who made a delicious afternoon birthday tea, with a beautifully laid table in a room decorated with balloons and banners, he drew a stick man. The face was a smiling Tim, with a ‘56’ badge on his chest, and stick legs…. wearing shorts.
I think he’s missed his vocation as a cartoonist!
When the birthday cake was brought in, with candles, we all remembered a previous birthday celebration at our old house. Tim was determined to surprise the birthday man with a cake. We were all sitting around the dining table, and Tim disappeared into the kitchen, where he bent down behind the kitchen units and lit a load of candles on the cake. In secret, or so he thought. It was open plan and there was a large gap between the top units and the worktop, and we all sat at the table on the other side watching the heat fumes rise, as Tim said,
‘Surprise!’
He stood up to see us all helpless with laughter.
Tim brought us hot drinks in bed last Sunday morning, and we had left the washing up drying on the drainer overnight. He said,
‘I’ve put the washing up away and with the things I didn’t know where they went, I just threw them away.’
Puzzled, I asked what those were. He replied,
‘Forks.’
Here’s an excerpt from this week’s Thoughtful Tuesday, ‘Sea Glass’.

My love to you all, till next week. 🩷
Yogi Bera once said “if you come to a fork in the road, take it!”
Love and laughter are a potent combination. Happy birthday Tim! <3 xox <3 UB
