Circles in Life

The picture is a gifted tea cup and saucer, and it holds some broken flowers rescued from the pathway outside a crematorium chapel. I can’t bear to leave them lying there.

Yesterday, a lovely lady funeral director and I were happy to be working together again as she has just returned from maternity leave. She has been much missed. Our chapel attendant’s thoughtfulness helped us look after our family during the service, and we both popped back into the chapel to thank him. Earlier, he’d mentioned that he had a meeting with a funeral director who hadn’t used our chapel before, and they had just finished talking.

The gentleman was leaving, and we looked at each other. Time stopped, as we both did a double-take. We started grinning and walked towards each other with our arms open wide. This special man was the funeral director who looked after my dad when he passed away, nearly five years ago. We have exchanged messages a few times over the years, and his first words were,

‘I never thought I’d see you again.’

I replied, ‘I knew our paths would cross again.’

My eyes filled with tears as we caught up on each other’s news, and I introduced him to our lovely funeral director and shared how he had looked after our family.

I will never forget him. His grace, kindness, and gentle humour, and how he went above and beyond to make sure everything was as balanced as it could be during a COVID lockdown. His example has been the foundation for how I help to support all the loved ones who want to honour their loved ones who have passed away.

My eyes are filled with tears of gratitude as I write this.

Awful things are happening in the world, yet there are many good people, and the one thing we never forget is kindness.

Kindness is a language the heart hears and remembers.

Kindness creates memories that are treasures.

Kindness is a powerful agent of change.
